MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported 243 out of 277 Chinese workers who were arrested last Sept. 11 after government enforcers raided a facility in Pasig City. Dana Sandoval, BI spokesperson, said the deportees were escorted by BI intelligence agents as well as Chinese police and embassy officials. “Many of them were illegally working here as they did not bother to secure work permits and visas, while others were allegedly overstaying and undocumented,” Sandoval said. The Philippines has experienced a sharp increase in Chinese arrivals in recent years. ?Commissioner Jaime Morente assured the public that the BI is serious in its drive against foreign criminals who try to evade punishment and prosecution.
