Several MPs in parliament Thursday termed the court verdict against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia a “historic one,” saying everybody is equal before the law. Taking floor on point of order, treasury bench lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim initiated the unscheduled discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in chair. Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Shirin Akther said the verdict reflected the expectation of people of the country. “Khaleda Zia’s jail was expected and the verdict proves that no one can avoid jail after committing corruption,” she said. “BNP leaders are saying that the verdict was an outcome of the revenge of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is an absurd lie.
