Until Ethiopian forces stop making use of Eritrea for internal political purposes, genuine peace will remain elusive. To make matters worse, since the war, Badme has become a central symbol of sovereignty and has expanded in terms of population and infrastructure. The Ethiopia-Eritrea border war claimed lives, hampered social and economic development, obstructed trade, and prevented peace and security in the region.
