On Thursday, a man was shot dead by police after he fired upon them when they attempted to stop a vehicle as part of their investigation into this week's double homicide. Police believed it was a semi-automatic weapon due to the number of shots fired in quick succession. The vehicle then fled towards SH2, in the direction of the Tauranga CBD, and more shots were fired from the moving vehicle. The weapon was believed to be a semi-automatic given the large volume of shots fired. East-bound traffic should turn right onto Waihi Rd from Cambridge Rd, turn left onto SH2 ramp for Takatimu Drive north or continue on Waihi Rd and turn right onto Cameron Rd for SH29A south.
