Police record statement from Dr Mahathir over Bugis remark - Nation


PUTRAJAYA: Police have arrived at Perdana Leadership Foundation to record a statement from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over Bugis remarks he made at a rally in JulySix officers, believed to be from Bukit Aman, arrived at the Foundation here at 1.40pm Wednesday. The former prime minister's lawyer, Mohamed Khatira Abdullah, was seen entering the premises at 1.05pm. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had said that Dr Mahathir "will definitely be called in for questioning as soon as possible.”Two investigation papers were opened over remarks Dr Mahathir made about the Bugis at a talk and rally in Shah Alam on Oct 14. The six-man team from Bukit Aman arrived at 1.40pm and according to Mohamed Haniff, the police began questioning Dr Mahathir at 2pm, taking about 45 minutes to ask 32 questions. Early last month, the Selangor Sultan, who is of Bugis ancestry, rebuked Dr Mahathir for seeming to try and incite Malaysians to “hate, insult and belittle the Bugis” and called for the former premier to be investigated for sedition.
