Two people were plucked from the Heathcote River in Christchurch after the car they fled police in hit spikes and plunged into the river. It was stopped with road spikes about 10 minutes later, before crashing into the nearby Heathcote River at the intersection of Richardson Tce and Ferry Rd in Woolston. She said shortly after the crash, officers arrested two people, who were in the river next to the floating car. On Friday, a man driving a car with a woman and six children inside fled police in Christchurch, then ran away after the car caught fire. The driver of the car hit road spikes on Belfast Rd about 12.50am last Tuesday, but ran away on foot.
