Police on alert to stop ‘rapists’ of university students fleeing abroad

The case started at Banani Police Station on Saturday accuses five men of raping two university students inside a room of Dhaka’s Raintree Hotel on Mar 28. The plaintiff, one of the two students, said they had remained silent this far following death threats and intimidation from the perpetrators. The case names 26-year-old Safat Ahmad, son of one of the owners of Apan Jewellers, as the prime suspect. The others are 30-year-old Nayeem Ashraf, son of a contractor, and 24-year-old Sadman Sakif, son of the owner of Dhaka’s Picasso Restaurant. However, there are examples of criminals fleeing abroad in the middle of investigation.
