NewsThe government has decided to grant police personnel a subsistence allowance in addition to their monthly salary from next month, an official at the Finance Ministry said. Earlier, police officers who travel outside their respective police divisions for official purposes, had to claim an allowance by submitting a voucher and relevant documents for each trip. However, taking into consideration the practical difficulties faced while making the claim, the Finance Ministry has decided to introduce this special allowance for 75,000 police officers. Accordingly, a police officer above the rank of the inspector who was entitled to a claim of Rs 1,000 each will receive a subsistent allowance of Rs 20,000. A sergeant would receive Rs 16,000 while a constable will receive Rs 14,000, the official noted.
