Justice Department officials have said that federal investigators are using tools such as facial recognition to help analyze a weighty amount of photos, videos and other evidence. Instead, the events were captured in countless smartphone photos, video live streams and location-tagged social media posts. More than 390,000 facial recognition searches have been run by local, state and federal investigators over the last decade.
