A 55-year-old man led police on a chase through Taranaki farmland because he didn't want to be ordered from his house, a court heard. Police were called to Ross Graham Bixley's Midhirst address on June 18, 2019 on a family harm matter, Hāwera District Court was told. All parties were spoken to and police went to issue a safety order on Bixley for 48 hours. About 5.30pm Bixley was told by police more than once that he was being detained by the safety order and was not free to leave. Judge Garry Barkle told Bixley the police were just trying to carry out their job.
