While shop workers can ask customers to put on a face mask if they refuse the onus is then on police officers to enforce the law. (Image: Getty Images)Met Police chief Dame Cressida Dick has said on LBC Radio that she hoped stubborn shoppers will be 'shamed' into wearing wearing a face mask rather than be fined. Police in Devon and Cornwall and Thames Valley have said they will only get involved in face mask dispute if things turn ugly while Humberside Police have indicated a similar stance. Face mask have been mandatory on public transport since June 15.
