FR Tower at Banani in Dhaka catches fire on Thursday, March 28, 2019 Mahmud Hossain Opu/Dhaka TribuneThe greedy owners, ignored safety rules and evaded provisions for the most needed services in a building construction, only to make money, said the DB officialThe fire incident, at FR Tower in Banani, caused huge loss to life and property because of flouting the building code, faulty construction and lack of life saving equipments, said police. “A huge loss and damages were counted in the Banani FR Tower fire incident due to fault in the building construction, lack of emergency exit, adequate smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers,” said Md Abdul Baten, additional police commissioner of Detectives Branch (DB), in a press briefing at DMP’s media centre on Sunday. Expressing deep sympathy for the loss of lives in the inferno, he said the fire broke out due to negligence of Faruk, Tasveer, and Liakat Ali Khan Mukul, leaving 26 dead and a huge loss to assets. Baten said, Rupayan Group owner, Liakat, constructed the FR Tower violating the rules and regulations and sold the building for his personal gains. A total of 26 people were killed and 70 others injured in the deadly fire incident on Thursday.
