More 70 years after the end of the Second World War Poland is considering asking Germany for more compensation for the destruction caused by the Nazis. The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party has instructed the research service of Poland’s parliament to investigate possibilities for a claim and to report back by August 11. The PiS chairman, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, last week announced a “historic counteroffensive” by Poland on reparations. “We are talking about tremendous sums and also about the fact that Germany refused for many years to take responsibility for the Second World War,” he told Polish radio.
