Poba seeks policymakers’ attention for mitigating traffic woes

In the wake of increasing severity of traffic congestion, Poribesh Bachao Andolan (Poba) has called upon the policymakers to pay attention in mitigating traffic woes for commuters as it consumes significant working hours of commuters in the metropolitan areas. The problem is no longer confined to mere traffic congestion, but has become a crisis for commuters, it says. Poba Chairman Abu Naser Khan asserted that the problem of traffic jam is interlinked with perpetual efforts of multinational companies making profit out of private automobile business. According to discussants, the biggest obstacle to solve traffic jam lies in the approach where construction of flyovers is believed to be the solution. Poba recommended two major principles – principle concerning controlling traffic activities and principle relating to increasing convenient activities- to resolve the crisis.
