Player expresses relief after ban by Clare League over social media criticism is lifted

A junior player banned for six months by the Clare League for criticising their show of support for former CEO of the FAI John Delaney has had his ban lifted. The footballer suspended by the Clare District Soccer League (CDSL) for social media posts in which he criticised a letter the league issued in support of John Delaney has spoken of his relief after his ban was lifted. "I'm just relieved it's over," Shannon Town player Jordan Downes told Independent.ie"It was a disgrace that I missed three month's playing time. However, the FAI panel had said they did "not have the jurisdiction or power to set aside the aforementioned decision" to ban Mr Downes. However, Mr Downes was not a registered player with the league at the time of those now-deleted posts.
