Phil Mickelson breaks drought with playoff win in WGC Mexico eventGETTY IMAGES Phil Mickelson won the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship in a playoff. Phil Mickelson has broken through for his first victory in more than four years, beating Justin Thomas in a playoff to win the World Golf Championships-Mexico tournament. The 47-year-old Mickelson won with a par on the first extra hole at the Chapultepec Golf Club when Thomas failed to get up and down from the fringe. It's five-times major champion Mickelson's first win since the 2013 British Open. World No.2 Thomas had shot a closing seven-under par 64 with a spectacular eagle on the last hole to finish at 16-under 268 but he was joined by Mickelson who carded a 66 to force the playoff.
