Peterborough, Ont., opens time capsule from 1864


The capsule was located by Peterborough staff beneath the site of the old Peterborough County Jail, based on research of the building and the help of local residents and historians. Items included minutes of Peterborough County Council, coins, photos, a copy of The Peterborough Examiner newspaper, and other documents. "What a great day for Peterborough County and City," said Peterborough Mayor Daryl Bennett, who was on hand for the capsule's opening, among other officials. There are plans to catalogue and research all the items with the intent on creating an exhibit at the Peterborough County Courthouse.
