The juggernaut that is professional sport quickly re-emerges to capture our attention while our amateur athletes continue to train and compete in relative obscurity. Canada has so far won 20 medals and has had four world-beaters in Rio, an improvement over 2012. But if history is any guide, many of Canada’s exceptional performances here are likely to be forgotten until the 2020 Tokyo Games.
