The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has hailed The Guardian newspaper as it marks its 40th anniversary since its inception. “It pleases me to join Nigerians and especially the media community in Nigeria to congratulate The Guardian Newspaper for reaching the landmark publishing age of 40 years. Mr Obi pointed out the efforts and sacrifices of The Guardian newspaper in ushering in the democratic rule Nigerians enjoy today while ousting the military regime in Nigeria’s polity. Mr Obi also paid a special tribute to the publisher and all past and present staff of The Guardian for creating the success story of The Guardian newspaper through the years. According to Wikipedia, The Guardian newspaper was first published on 22 February 1983 as a weekly newspaper, appearing only on Sundays.
