It has been a tumultuous year in British politics, marred by chaos and incompetence in Westminster, dither and delay over Brexit, a change in prime minister and, as the countdown to Christmas began, a snap election. “It’s been quite different this year,” says Peter Brookes. “The past six months have been particularly exciting to draw, from the change in leader – and new cast of characters – to the parliament versus government debacle.”Brexit has inevitably dominated Brookes’ drawing board. “Almost daily you’re doing a variation on the Brexit theme – it’s the only show in town. So it’s harder to cover other world events, which is what, under normal circumstances, I have done for many years.
