Pep Guardiola fears the gap between Manchester City and the best sides in Europe may have widened, not narrowed, after all but conceding his Premier League crown. But with the Champions League now clearly the main priority it is the gap between his City side and the rest of Europe’s big sides which is now a growing concern. “United have the quality to defend and the quality to attack on the counter-attack and you have to accept that,” said the City boss. “But that is the level we face against Liverpool, United, Barcelona, Madrid, Juventus – those are the teams we have to face and the reality is maybe we are not able now to compete with them.
