The Electoral Commission's website showed the donations, totalling $206,000, were made between July and October 2017 by the leader of the party, Roshan Lal Nauhria (file photo). The secretary of the People's Party is facing charges for allegedly failing to file donations made to the party during the 2017 election. The People's Party was first set up for the Mount Roskill by-election in 2016, then stood in the general election in 2017, receiving 1890 votes – 0.1 per cent of total votes. Court documents seen by Stuff on Friday showed that People's Party secretary Anil Sharma faced five charges of failing to file donations made to the party that exceeded the sum of $30,000. The onus falls on the party secretary to file returns of party donations.
