Doctors and scientists are trying to unlock the mystery of the post-Covid syndrome, also known as "long Covid", where the effects of Covid-19 persist for weeks or months beyond the initial illness. As the pandemic continues, health experts have picked up on more and more cases of this prolonged illness. According to a recently published global study, 203 different symptoms have been reported by survey respondents across 10 different organ systems in the body, showing how pervasive the impact of the condition is. And now, researchers at the University of Birmingham in the UK have gained further insight into this debilitating condition. After analysing 27 existing studies on long Covid, they found that individuals, who had more than five symptoms during the first week of their infection, were at increased risk of developing long Covid – irrespective of age or gender.
