Penang again told to halt hillslope projects

KUALA LUMPUR: The Penang government has again been urged to immediately halt and review all hillslope projects on the island. This comes after a road leading to a newly-built housing area in Tanjung Bungah collapsed early this morning due to continuous rain since yesterday. “Landslides can happen as a result of hill slopes being cleared for development, therefore the state government should halt and review all hillside development projects,” he said. Oh earlier shared pictures of the collapsed road, which also caused a sinkhole in front of the luxury housing area on his Facebook. Now, we are worried about the safety of the residents living in the vicinity as the retaining wall could completely collapse,” he said.
