A patchwork of 30, 40 and 50 kilometre speed limits is being proposed to make New Plymouth district safer for drivers, pedestrians cyclists and students. A 30kmh limit has existed in the New Plymouth central business district since 2012, in line with many cities. The plans have been put forward in the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) Safer Speeds review, which is focusing on council-managed roads in all towns in the district. “Before we draw up any formal proposals for speed limit changes, we want to hear what locals think,” Langford added. “It can take them five or so minutes to cross the road.”Catherine Groenestein/Stuff Simply Blooming Florist and Gifts owner Leisha Scott says many drivers speed through the roundabout.
