One person has been confirmed dead after a car was recovered from a canal west of Ashburton following reports of a crash just after 1am on Saturday. (File photo)The passenger of a car recovered from a canal west of Ashbuton has been found dead, while police continued to search for the missing driver. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said crews were called to the crash on Pudding Hill Rd, Methven just after 1am on Saturday. A car was found in the Rangitata Diversion Race (RDR), flowing under the Pudding Hill Rd RDR bridge , which was being drained to gain better access to the submerged car. According to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency crash data, at least 11 other crashes had been recorded on Pudding Hill Rd since January 2000, three of which were serious.
