Silver Fern Farms has reported exporting record volumes of meat from its Pareora plant in recent months, but labour shortages have meant workers are now being brought from Auckland. “While the global supply chain challenges have made shipping from Pareora challenging at times, as it has for all of Silver Fern Farms processing sites, we have managed to export record volumes. “Our global markets have largely been strong and demand for most products has remained positive throughout the global disruption caused by the pandemic,” a Silver Fern Farms spokesman said. To address the worker shortage Silver Fern Farms has started a pilot programme and brought in six employees from Auckland to work at Pareora.
