The future of York Region’s director of education — blasted in a recent report for his poor leadership and questionable conduct — is uncertain after a three-hour private trustee meeting that left both parents and staff waiting for answers. The board of trustees also has the right, “in its absolute discretion, for any reason,” to let him go and pay him a year’s salary. Hunter has told the Star that the director’s contract is the responsibility of trustees. Board chair Loralea Carruthers has said she cannot comment on the director’s future or any other personnel matter.
