A parent launched a tirade of abuse and threatened lifeguards at Feilding's Makino Aquatic Centre. A parent who left their child swimming unsupervised threatened lifeguards at the pool until police intervened. Police were called to nine other cases of abuse against council workers in Rangitīkei, Horowhenua and Palmerston North this year. Chief executive David Clapperton said all involved frontline staff, including customer services, enforcement officers, library staff and building inspectors. Library staff were abused when challenging people accused of theft and attempting to stop a public altercation.
