Police allege the man who attacked Matthew Slade on Saturday was in the midst of a crime spree that had started 24 hours earlier and spanned Christchurch and Akaroa. Former Paralympic gold medallist Matthew Slade​ had just pulled into a Christchurch car park to get a coffee when he was approached by a stranger asking for help. Barely conscious on the ground, Slade, who has cerebral palsy, remembers hearing his car driving away. Slade said his car was found in Akaroa, and that he used the Find My iPhone app to find his phone, which had been thrown out the car.
