DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Barely two days after vice mayor Paolo Duterte tendered his resignation, the presidential son filed a civil suit against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV before the regional trial court (RTC) here. Carpio is the husband of presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Although both Paolo and Carpio attended the Senate Blue Ribbon committee hearing last Sept. 7, they invoked their right to remain silent. Carpio said Trillanes was imputing malice in saying that his appearance before the BOC was because of smuggling. Carpio’s wife, Mayor Sara, belittled Trillanes’ claim that her brother Paolo resigned in an effort to evade being investigated by the ombudsman.
