India accuses Pakistan of supporting an armed insurgency in Indian-administered Kashmir, a charge Pakistan denies. In New Delhi, foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup issued a strongly worded statement stating that India was “dismayed at the continued attempts by Pakistan to interfere in our internal matters, where, we reiterate, Pakistan or any other external party has no locus standi”. The verbal duel between India and Pakistan erupted after the death of Burhan Wani, who India says is a militant belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group. “India completely and unequivocally rejects in entirety the decisions adopted by the cabinet of Pakistan on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. Kashmir has triggered three of the four wars between India and Pakistan since 1947.
