MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has clarified that it is impossible to predict that a potential typhoon that might affect the Philippines in January will become a super typhoon. Pagasa said that a tropical cyclone in January would be normal based on its historical data. “But, predicting the tropical cyclone intensity to reach super typhoon category for more than one week ahead has a very high uncertainty,” Pagasa said, adding that the atmosphere is very dynamic and needs constant monitoring. Pagasa made the clarification after a Facebook page posted updates on alleged strong typhoon that will hit the country come New Year. “Everyone is advised to access only the official information from Pagasa through our website or through our official Facebook page,” it said.
