The federal cabinet will announce its decision on the Pacific NorthWest LNG project later today, CBC News has learned. The proposed $36-billion liquefied natural gas project on B.C. It has also rankled environmentalists and some First Nations groups who are concerned about greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the potential impact on local fisheries and habitat. The project, backed by Malaysian-owned energy giant Petronas, would move natural gas from B.C. The agency has said the project "would be one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters in Canada."
