PP urges disclosure of agency pay, perks

PP urges disclosure of agency pay, perksThe opposition People's Party (PP) has called on independent state agencies to publicly disclose the salaries, allowances and welfare benefits of their executives, amid criticism that the party has been outmanoeuvred on parliamentary welfare reform. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, Bhuntin Noumjerm, a PP MP for Bangkok, said taxpayers have a right to know how much top officials at independent bodies receive in compensation and benefits. He said such transparency would enable both the public and other institutions to properly scrutinise agencies that operate with significant autonomy. He said executives at the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission already receive high salaries, and when official vehicles and related privileges are included, total compensation can approach 500,000 baht per month. The move comes after the party faced backlash for appearing slow to act on reforming parliamentary privileges following the bid to cut MP meal allowances.
