In his statement, the accused admitted that he was involved in the incident. After recording his statement, the court sent Tariqul to jail. In preliminary investigations, investigators found that Tariqul, vice-president of the Chhatra League central committee, Farhad, a student at North South University, and Fatima, an office assistant at the PMO, were involved in the forgery. On May 5, Md Rafiqul Alam, director-7 at the PMO, filed a case with Tejgaon police station against the accused.
