PUTRAJAYA: When the Government carries out or implements things, it is done for the benefit of the people, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic). The Prime Minister said efforts by the Government sometimes go unnoticed and are even criticised but in fact, they provide the basis for economic growth and wealth for the future of the country. "When we introduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for example, many said that it would burden the people but if we study carefully and check in terms of national revenue, we collected RM42bil last year through GST. "When oil prices dropped drastically, we are still able to develop and grow the country's economy. "This person initially said he will abolish GST, later he said it will be zero-rated and now he wants to bring back the Sales and Services Tax (SST).
