The prime minister expressed her optimism that the historic speech of Bangabandhu would guide new generations to be imbued with hopes, aspirations and patriotism and they would remember the great leader forever. “It is very unfortunate that a vested quarter tried to hide his pioneering role in the language movement. Bangabandhu launched the language movement first in 1948,” she said. As the daughter of Bangabandhu, Hasina said: “We know it better how Bangabandhu made his efforts to liberate the nation.”Many leaders had advised Bangabandhu to boycott the 1970 general election as the Pakistani rulers had imposed many conditions. Each and every step taken by Bangabandhu, from the Jukta Front election to the general election in 1970, was part of his well-thought-out plan to liberate the nation from the clutch of subjugation, the prime minister said.
