MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has recorded the highest number of land rights and environmental defenders killed in 2019 among Asian countries, and the second highest number in the world behind Colombia, according to an environment and human rights watchdog. The report also showed that mining was the deadliest sector globally with 50 defenders killed last year.
