Highways Minister Johnston Fernando has said that the Provincial Council election will be held in the near future since the PCs should continue to function, the Highways Ministry today said. The Minister, speaking at an event in Kobeigane recently, said the Provincial Council system can only be changed by bringing in a new Constitution. “If the Provincial Council system is not proper, it should be changed by bringing in a Constitution. Therefore, the election for the PCs will be held in the future,” the minister said. He said the PC polls were scheduled to be held years ago but the Yahapalana Government decided not to go ahead with the poll since they lost the local government election.
