Over 250,000 individuals affected by ‘Ompong’s fury


A total of 250,036 individuals or 63,769 families were affected when Typhoon “Ompong” unleashed its fury in the country, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC). In a report released on Sunday, the NDRRMC said 148,283 individuals or a total of 37,910 families were from Regions I, II, III, National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Classes were suspended in 945 cities and municipalities in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, V, VI, VIII, IX, CARAGA, CAR, and NCR. Work in government offices were also suspended in 228 cities and municipalities in Regions I, II, III, VI, XIII, and CAR. Seventy-nine areas were reported flooded in Regions III and Calabarzon as of Sunday while 25 road sections were affected by heavy rains in Regions I, IV, IX, and CAR.
