DAVAO CITY — The Buhangin branch of the New City Commercial Center (NCCC) mall here was partly damaged by a mysterious fire early on Sunday, only a day after it opened with much fanfare and nearly nine months after its Maa branch was razed by a blaze that killed 38 people. Authorities are investigating what caused the fire that gutted a portion of the cinema section on the fourth level of the new mall past 12 a.m., Fire Chief Insp. Virnalita Silagan, Davao City fire marshal, said. The charges came after an inter-agency government task force investigating the Maa blaze found lapses on the part of the respondents. No one was hurt in the latest incident, the city fire official said.
