Over 16.9m people to get COVID-19 vaccine on priority basis, PM saysPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the government has taken measures to vaccinate over 16.9 million people on a priority basis. In her address, she shared the government's plans for the mass vaccination campaign against the coronavirus in Bangladesh after arrival of around 7 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India. Bangladesh has received a shipment of 2 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as a gift from India while another consignment of 5 million doses of the vaccine bought from Serum Institute of India also arrived in the country on January 25. The priority list for immunisation drive has been determined in line with the guidelines of the World Health Organization and the current situation in the country, she explained. Around 600,000 health workers of the private facilities will also get the vaccine in the first phase.
