Bangladesh is blessed with the climate and geography to be able to produce the best quality jute in the world. And yet, many state-owned jute mills around the country have operated in a disastrously inefficient manner, and incurred massive losses. On the other hand, private mills have demonstrated better management in every way and have turned profits. Right now, state-owned jute mills take up vast swathes of land which lie unused — needless to say, that is enormously wasteful. When privatised, jute mills can provide thousands of jobs without incurring crores in losses.
