Our Truth, Tā Mātou Pono is a Stuff project investigating the history of racism. The Nelson Mail is among New Zealand’s longest-running newspapers, launching in the 1860s when colonial Nelson was just 25 years old. The Nelson Mail, launched towards the end of the wars, stood staunchly with the European militia. The incident took place in 1843, more than 20 years before the Nelson Mail printed its first edition. With the launch of Our History, Tā Mātou Pono, Stuff and the Nelson Mail have taken that first step.
