Outraged residents in western Brazil are comparing an adoption event at a local mall to slaves being sold at a market. Shocking images have emerged out of the western state of Mato Grosso showing orphans from the ages four to 17 being forced to walk the runway while prospective families clap and cheer. The Mato Grosso Association of Research and Adoption Support defended its decision to host the event. The attorney told Brazilian newspaper Muvuca Popular that the adoption process was like 'an old slave trade show'. As part of this year's week-long event, the Mato Grosso Association of Research and Adoption Support is also hosting lectures, seminars and recreation for the children and adolescent orphans.
