Oppo's Latest UDP-203 4K Blu-ray Player Update Is A Big Disappointment

Oppo has rolled out another firmware update for its UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. For starters, update 20X-42-0329 does not deliver the one killer feature many Oppo 203 owners were hoping it would: support for the Dolby Vision HDR system. Dolby suggested at the 2017 CES that Dolby Vision would roll out to the Oppo 203 around the end of March, yet this April update still contains no sign of the much-anticipated feature. After all, many of the latest generation of Atmos-capable soundbars provide HDMI loop through for 4K HDR sources, so why not add the transcoding options to the HDMI output options too, like Samsung does with its K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player? --If you enjoyed this article, you might also like these:Oppo's UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Just Got Even BetterThe PS4 Pro's Missing 4K Blu-ray Drive: The Mistake Sony Had To MakeHDR Made Easy: A Jargon Free Guide To The Next Big Thing In TV TechnologyOppo UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Review: The Return Of The KingArrival Ultra HD Blu-ray ReviewSamsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player ReviewFollow me on Twitter @bigjohnnyarcher, Facebook or read my other Forbes articles via my profile page.
