Canada has long hesitated to collect race-based data — a hesitation based in part on fear that it could lead to targeted discrimination. A statement released by the Parliamentary Black Caucus in June 2020 urged the Government of Canada to collect race-based data. It’s time we give up the visible minority category in flavor of more robust and comprehensive race-based data collection.
