Ontario plans to ban ‘ticket bots,’ cap resale value after public outcry

The Ontario government plans to ban “ticket bots” from scooping up tickets and limiting how much resale tickets can be sold. The changes come after public outcry, followed by consultation, on how to address the problem that can see a majority of tickets sold within minutes of being made available. “Tens of thousands of fans across Ontario told us they are frustrated and want to see changes,” Ontario Attorney General Yasir Naqvi told reporters Monday morning at a press conference across the street from the Rogers Centre. “It’s not fair to fans when tickets sell out in seconds and show up on resale sites as a massive markup. That’s why we are changing the rules to make sure fans come first and give everyone a fair shot at getting the tickets they want.”The Ticket Sales Act will cap resale value at no more than 50 per cent above the original price.
