The documentary Little India: Village of Dreams explores the history and culture of Gerrard St. Shops selling South Asian clothing are very present in the neighbourhood. ( Jo-Anne McArthur ) Gerrard St.'s India Bazaar is also known as Toronto's Little India, where one can find both food and clothing from South Asia. We went to the movie theatre on Gerrard — and Bollywood films usually being three-hour affairs, I remember that there always used to be an “intermission” during the film, like you find in live theatre. Movies from the subcontinent — and, by extension, Gerrard St. — nourished my complicated sense of identity. Little India: Village of Dreams debuts on TVO on Saturday July 1 at 9 p.m., and will repeat throughout the week.
